I T ' S T I M E T O D R E A M B I G A N D F A L L I N L O V E W I T H C A L I F O R N I A N W I N E S My love affair with California Wines began back in 2004, when I finished my WSET Diploma and first visited California, what struck me was the comradery, openness and friendliness of all the vintners I met, a sentiment that is still echoed today, I cannot emphasise how excited I am to have so many vintners travelling to Ireland for this event, the biggest California Wine Tasting ever staged in Ireland and this could not happened without these wonderful people and the Irish Importers and supporters of California Wine. I'm looking forward to catching up with some of the classics from Duckhorn, Inglenook, Jackson Family Wines and Silver Oak. I'm also keen to taste some of the great value wines from producers such as Byron of Santa Barbara, Louis Martini in Napa and Sonoma, and Hilltop's selection of growers from Lodi. We'll also learn more through our seminars, with acclaimed author Kelli White of 'Napa Valley then and Now' guiding us through Napa's mountains and valley floor, while California wine expert, Lynne Coyle MW explores cooler climate coastal wines. I am also delighted to have guest chef Ryan Stringer here with us, Ryan is an alumni of Cakebread Cellars in Napa, his flavours take me right back to California and I hope they transport you there today. He is rustling some delicious tastes of the Golden State to match Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with live demonstrations during the day and last but not least, I am thrilled to be working with my friends from who are running our consumer evening, a sell out in 24 hours! So, make sure you leave yourself time not just to try the wines today, but to also enjoy a taste of California too. Justine McGovern California Wine Institute IRL
